Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Map Pack Review
As you all should know if you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few months, the Resurgence Pack is the second piece of downloadable content for the hugely successful first-person shooter. The Resurgence Pack costs 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20) and is great value for money, just like the Stimulus Package was. The Resurgence Pack has the same structure to the Stimulus Package (3 new maps, 2 old maps.) Now, to say that it’s not worth paying for old maps on Modern Warfare 2, it is. Modern Warfare 2 is a very different experience to that of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and so the way you play the maps change, the advantages and disadvantages change, and of course, the killstreaks play a big factor.
Firstly, the old maps: Strike and Vacant. These maps were hugely popular on CoD 4 and they provide good games again this time round. Vacant is a tight, small, interior map with a lot of killstreaks, namely the aerial ones being rendered almost useless as the majority of the map is inside and covered. See, different experiences. It gives players a lot of chance to run around blasting each other in the face at close proximity, which is always good.
Strike is a medium sized map made up of a few back streets and buildings which again was a CoD 4 favorite. This map is a good, even map with there being odd vantage points spotted around the map for those pesky snipers. As always with the old maps, they have had graphical improvements and slight tweaks to cater to Modern Warfare 2.
Now for the new maps. Firstly Carnival. Carnival seems like an early favorite to most people playing the Resurgence Pack and it’s easy to see why. The map is one of the most varied Infinity Ward have produced for Modern Warfare 2 and offers a lot of different areas. For example, there is a castle area, a fun house area and even a broken runaway train track for you to clamber upon.
Next we have Trailer Park. Trailer Park is a very close quarters map with a lot of choke points and focus points where you’ll find most of the action. The trailers usually have a few ways in or out so it’s very much a guessing game as to where the enemy is going to come from. This map is very tight and it often gives you a slight rush when you’re constantly sprinting through ruined trailers to find that sneaky enemy.
Finally, the last map of the Resurgence Pack is Fuel. Now, Fuel is a good map, but it seems like a lot of it is wasted. Fuel is the biggest map for Modern Warfare 2 yet it feels like you’re only ever in one area. It feels too big for a game like Modern Warfare 2 and most players often don’t touch half of the map. The action is mainly focused on the area with buildings and little attention is given to the outskirts of the rocks and sand. In fact, the only time most people venture out to these sandy areas is when an objective is placed here, and that’s not often. Not to take anything away from Fuel, the map is a good map but it just seems unnecessarily big.
Overall, the Resurgence Pack is a great buy and will give you countless more hours play time. However the thing that stops it from being a 10 is the fact that Fuel seems too big for Modern Warfare 2, and especially under used.
