Linkin Park Get The ‘Honor’
Nu-Metal mavens Linkin Park will have a single on the Medal Of Honor soundtrack, according to an EA press release from earlier today. The track is titled “The Catalyst” and is from their upcoming album, A Thousand Suns, releasing on September 14th. The track will also be featured in a trailer for the game, directed by Linkin Park DJ, Joe Hahn.
“This is a unique, creative association for us,” Hahn said. “A collaboration that we are excited about.”
Music can play a very important role in the enjoyment factor of a game. I’ve found myself turned on to new songs and new artists from such obvious sources as the Guitar Hero franchise to less likely candidates like Forza Motorsport or MLB ’10 The Show. Seeing a mainstream artist like Linkin Park’s addition to a game may increase the interest of some, while diminishing it for others.
I’ve had the chance to participate in the Medal Of Honor multiplayer beta. The game takes a divergent leap of faith by stepping away from the grey and green on World War II, and stepping into the beige and brown of the war in Afghanistan. The level I played threw me into the streets of Kabul, RPGs exploding overhead and my comrades’ profanity flying freely through the bullet riddled air.
Initial reaction may be to call this game a Modern Warfare clone. One of the things that sets it apart could be its soundtrack. With Linkin Park already on the bill, anything is possible.
Medal Of Honor launches on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on 10/12/10 in North America, and 10/15/10 in Europe.
